Character webs or maps are a great way to visually represent your knowledge. They provide a different way of analyzing a text's main characters other than simply writing out a description for each individual in the novel. I really enjoyed the creation process of this web, as it confirmed that I had taken away key details and characteristics about the main characters of the novel and allowed me to make even further connections between the characters that I had not made while reading the novel. In this map, I included basic details of each character and who they are as a person, as well as some of their significant actions and interactions with other characters in the novel. The map is a little bit unorganized, but I am glad that it is, because I think it represents the thinking and learning that happened throughout its creation. I plan on using character maps of some kind when studying this novel with my Grade 8 students in practicum. With only 8 students in my class, I think that we could create a more extensive and detailed character map as a class or even in small groups. This would allow me to assess the whole classes' understanding of the characters, their actions, and how they relate to each other in the novel.
